Frequently Asked Questions
What is Asala Maison?
Asala Maison is a curated collection of heirloom furnishings and objects celebrating exceptional craftsmanship, cultural heritage, and the hands that bring each piece to life. We source from master makers and small studios across Africa and around the world.
Are your pieces handmade?
Many of our pieces are handmade or finished by hand, using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Because of this, subtle variations in texture, color, shape, and finish are part of their character—and make each piece beautifully unique.
Where are your pieces made?
Our collection is sourced from makers across Africa and from exceptional craft communities around the world. Each piece carries a story of place, material, tradition, and the person who made it.
Are your pieces one of a kind?
Many are. Some pieces are produced in very limited quantities, while others are available as small collections. When a piece is gone, it may not return.
Why do handmade pieces vary from one another?
Natural materials and traditional craftsmanship create variations that cannot—and should not—be replicated. Slight differences in color, texture, dimensions, or markings are evidence of the human hand and are considered part of each piece’s beauty.
What is The Africa 2040 Commitment?
Beginning in September 2026, a portion of every Asala Maison purchase will support a carefully selected charitable organization in one African country each quarter. Our goal is to support a meaningful initiative in all 54 sovereign countries of Africa by 2040—one country, one quarter, one meaningful impact at a time.
How does Asala Maison support artisans and communities?
We believe beauty should create a meaningful return to the communities that preserve it. We work to build direct and thoughtful relationships with makers and small studios while honoring their knowledge, traditions, and craftsmanship.
How do I care for my Asala Maison pieces?
Care instructions vary according to the material and construction of each piece. Specific care recommendations are provided with your purchase. When in doubt, we recommend treating handmade and natural materials gently and avoiding harsh chemicals.
Can I use your pieces outdoors?
Certain pieces are suitable for outdoor use, while others are intended exclusively for interiors. Please refer to the individual product description or contact us before purchasing if you are unsure.
Do you offer custom or special orders?
Select pieces may be available by special order. Because many of our collections are sourced in limited quantities, availability depends on the maker and materials. Contact us to discuss a particular request.
Are special orders returnable?
Special orders, custom pieces, and items sourced specifically at a customer’s request are final sale and are not eligible for return or store credit.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We offer shipping to select destinations internationally.
How long does shipping take?
In-stock pieces typically ship within the timeframe indicated on the product page. Because many of our pieces are handcrafted, made to order, or sourced internationally, some orders may require additional time. We will communicate any expected delays as early as possible.
Can I return an item?
Because many Asala Maison pieces are limited, handmade, vintage, or sourced specifically for our collection, returns are subject to our return policy.
Eligible returns are accepted for store credit only. We do not offer refunds to the original form of payment.
Items must be returned in their original condition and packaging within the applicable return window. Items that have been used, damaged, altered, or otherwise compromised may not be eligible for return.

What if my piece arrives damaged?
Please contact us as soon as possible with videos and or photographs of the packaging and the piece. We will work with you to determine the appropriate resolution.
How can I learn more about the maker behind a piece?
We believe the maker’s story is part of the piece itself. Where information is available, we share the story, technique, region, and cultural context behind our collections in the product description and accompanying materials.
